Birkenhead Park poem by Peter Smith

When working in the park
you need not fear
for only the trees
and the birds are near

Working with nature
makes you feel of use
and relieves you of
the unemployment blues

You work from 10 to 12
a perfect way to start your day
as a volunteer
it’s rewarding in every way

With more to do
than your first impression
once you get started
it relieves some tension

being close to the ducks
there’s an impression od calm
a lasting experience
which brings no harm

Enjoying your day
the time passes quick
the work is varied
and the staff not too strict

When you finish your stay
you meet up for lunch
the people you work with
are a friendly bunch.
