Dug up ash trees & brambles around from the Wamors Rest. Opened up views of the upper lake from the lakeside path.
Today will be your last chance to see us at the Birkenhead Park Victorian Market. Thanks to everyone who has supported us and of course our team of volunteers who have worked so hard manning the chalet. The Market will be continuing until Friday so you still have time to see some of the other stalls.
Very Merry Christmas from all at Friends of Birkenhead Park
Worked on hydrangea beds near the Swiss Bridge. Reworked weeds but left the small cyleman plants nearby in the grass. Other beds were weeded and lightly prunned nearby. Willows ebs tructhy the view of the Boathouse from the bend on the island path were cut down and the view restored.
Marion worked on herb garden.
Marion edged the boothby ground bed whilst Paul K planted campawla, mangevnites and valerian.
Eric cleared the path of moss & etc next to the lower lake. Robbie and Les litter picked. Paul K planted Marguerite and campawula roots in the booth-by bed. Weeded some beds too.
Put in a job at HYPE ground near Cole street entrance. Bags of fly tipping had been put over the fence by the entrance. Jim the head gardener had to get another tractor to use it’s digger to scoop all the rubbish into the two flat beds. It was not a job that should have been done by volunteers. The group went out early to the visitors centre to find another job & we sent them off in small parties to pick up litter from the booth by ground. The whole experience was one of 8 volunteers in search of a ranger and a plan of action.
Marion and Paul K weeded the booth by ground flower bed, cut back the Marguerite and plates gladiolus bulbs.
Worked around the upper lake by Birkenhead Park. Cleared and tidyed around the ohrubo. Cut down shrubo fench height.
